Hi,
If i was to buy this lens would Lightroom (lens correction column) allow me to de-fisheye a picture taken with it, to create a normal wide angle picture?
I'm looking for a cheap wide angle and thought this lens might fit the bill.

Yep, just a few clicks to switch it over to one of the Nikon or Sigma fisheye profiles and it'll defish the picture.
I like to use the amount slider sometimes to add a little fish effect back in.
There're a couple of other standalone options to defish with different projections for different effects - fisheye hemi, I think.

They are great lenses, Jon. If you keep the horizon in the middle of the shot you can use it as a UWA ( well, sort off :D )

Have you tried any in-door shots with it Damian, just thinking would it be suitable for house interior shots also if i defish in lightroom?
 
as I'm at home, I've just snapped this. Taken with my hand above my head - the room is 25' x 11' I think. Clearly not defished

( excuse the decor, an old lady lived here for 45 years and we've just moved in )

Took the liberty of defishing @damianmkv's picture in Lr - using the Nikon AF DX Fisheye Nikkor 10.5mm preset - Adjusted the distortion to 95 from 100.

I prefer to use DxO ViewPoint to defuse images (I have the same lens) - it provides a little more control.
 
Here's the same image de-fished in DxO ViewPoint - have not cropped the edges.

There's very little between the two in this instance (asides from the additional distorted real estate at either side of the frame.

Thanks chaps, couldn't of asked for better imformation provided from the both of you.
 
The final image is contingent upon the orientation of the lens. You'd be surprised as to how much it can affect the final de-fished image. I bought one of these lenses a while ago but have only just started using it. I love it. But. for me at least, there's an obvious learning curve. But isn't that part of the fun?

You can make small rooms look much larger. You can correct perspective. And for the price, you can't really go wrong.
