I'm getting confused here.

The Ultra cards have been upgraded recently, how recently I don't know.
Online shops are quoting 30MB/s for the "new version".

Sandisk ExtremeIII are also quoted at the same speed.

The cards are available at different prices, but is there any difference? If there is no difference then Sandisk are selling the same cards with different stickers on them at different prices, is that the case?


All I want to do is buy a couple of 4GB cards, but may as well get the best value for money I can :help:
 
The extreme 3 cards are better build and slightly faster (in my utterly nonscientific test) than the 30mbps ultra cards, however you get 4gb for about the same price as 8gb of ultra.
 
Oh, and you don't get the neat neoprene case or the recovery pro mini cd with the ultra cards, just the old extreme ones.

I'm really liking the look of the 8gb extreme 60mbps ones for £45 though...
 
I really should do some more tests with my camera, but I cant tell the difference between ultra 2 and ultra 3 (both the old type)

i bought this card the other week and its quite fast but unfortunately it never came with the case or cd which put me off a bit, i might not buy ehm ones again or at least not from jessops where i got it from originally. you expect to pay for quality and it werent worth it, i could have probably got it off the tinternet for cheaper.
 
I've just bought 2x 4Gb extreme III 30 Mb/s , they didn't come with the neoprene cases.

Packaging and extras with Sandisk seems almost random.

The recovery software is now downloadable, you just get a key for it.
 
Amazon have the 4GB Extreme III CF cards for £15.99 which seems like a great price (well, if you couldn't get any of the bargain Jessops clearance ones!)

They don't seem to come with the soft case or recovery CD any more which is a little annoying (especially since I paid £19.99 for it at the time.)

I'm looking at 4GB as I'm getting worried about "all eggs in one basket syndrome". I haven't yet lost a file, but would hate to lose 8GB worth of shots from one place.

Currently using a Transcend 8GB CF card (133x I think), it writes fast enough but getting them off again is a ball ache.

That 8GB 60Mb/s job does look tempting though :D
 
Got an 8gb 60mbps from jessops for £20 and it really is quick! Didnt think I would notice a differenc with my camera but both write speed and upload to my pc do seem quicker...
 
The current Ultra is now 30mb/s, the current Extreme is 60mb/s and the Extreme Pro faster still.

Basically everything has shifted up a notch.

You don't get the card wallet in the current Extreme III or 60mb/s Extreme now, nor the CD (but you get a voucher and url to download it from)

Ah, cool, sort of :D

So is the Ultra basically the previous ExtremeIII with a new sticker? Meaning that both that are on sale as 30Mb/s are essentially the same?

I think so. There may be a slight difference in warranty, but I'm not too fussed about that.

Jessops were selling off the old Extreme III to clear stocks. The range is now Ultra - Extreme - Extreme Pro.

I'm pretty sure the D80 isn't fast enough or has large enough raw files to be able to make any use of the 60mbps speed, so that's just saved you money :)

£20 for the 60mbps 8gb? :o wow... brb, jessops...
 
The new Extreme 60MB is very quick I have a 16GB one. I also have two Extreme III 16GB cards, I tried to get more as they appeared on my clearance list but the online orders snapped them up quicker than I could :bang:

There is big leap in the new cards especially in a camera that shoots 7fps body only. Shooting in RAW is now no longer a task!

All previous incarnations of the compact flash card will soon be obsolete so grab the deals while you can as the 60MB Extreme and 90MB Extreme pro will not be a cheap purchase! :shake:
 
Anyone know where I can get 4gb sandisk III cards that accept PAYPAL but not ebay.....
 
Don't Amazon? I bought some from mymemory before i noticed the Amazon deal.

I have some vouchers for Amazon too.

just ordered 1 of dvd.co.uk, and 1 of 7 day shop, will let you know what the dvd.co.uk one comes as.
 
I think volume sellers can buy their stock on a "it might not be retail packed" deal.
They get a good price but can't guarantee the presentation. If they order a few thousand sandisk just grab them out of the nearest bucket and ship them, wether they are retail packed or not.
Never had any problems with 7day, I'm sure it'll be the genuine item.

could well be ok, but it was dearer than dvd.co.uk, and alot slower delivery and you get less for more money.:thinking:
 
Then you found the right product at the right price, not always easy on the web :)
