Sandisk SD cards - 20mb/s vs 30mb/s?

Hi all,

I need a new SD card for the D90 as I'm using a rubbish mini-SD in a converter (2.77mb/s write, 9.58mb/s read).
I'm looking at an 8GB and from what I've read the Sandisk Extreme cards are the best VFM.

I want to buy from Amazon (gift card balance to spend) and see the 20mb/s is £10.49 and the 30mb/s is £22.99

So my question really is, does the 30mb/s really justify the extra money? Am I going to notice an in-camera difference (copy to PC speed not overly important).

The faster card is £12.99 at play just now... am aware this doesn't answer your question, but having had many Extreme III cards, it's what I'd get if I was buying just now

Thanks. It's interesting that the link you posted shows the 30mb/s card but the tech info says 20mb/s. Is the picture a red herring as it is on Amazon perhaps?

Could well be, IMHO if the title says 30 that what you should get. That said I've returned microSD's to play as speeds didn't match photo's! Customer service was fine, but still a pain. So in short YMMV

Just found the 30mb/s card for £13 at 7dayshop.com
Anyone know if they're OK?

EDIT: Went for this from Memory Card Zoo for £13.26 inc del as they have a note on the image stating they provide the latest 30mb/s model, so we shall see when it arrives!

I just posted this on another topic. I queried Play and still no further forward with whether its the 20 or 30mb/ s version.

I emailed play and they confirmed it is a 30mb/s card so a bargain at that price

Just like they 'confirmed' to me in an email it was 20MB/s as per my previous post? Yeah, I'll not bother. :bonk:

According to the website, please be advised that the item's specification in question has a speed of up to 20 MB/sec read and write speeds.

Just got 2 from play,in a deal they were doing Monday 8gb ex for £10.99,they were both 30mb

Well the card arrived today and was a retail boxed Sandisk Extreme 30MB/s :woot:

Out of interest, I ran a test with H2testw V1.4 and compared it to the old cards and this is the result:

Verbatim adapter w/ Verbatim 2GB Mini SD
Writing speed: 2.77 MByte/s
Reading speed: 9.58 MByte/s

My Memory 2GB SD
Writing speed: 3.74 MByte/s
Reading speed: 14.8 MByte/s

Sandisk 8GB 30mb/s
Writing speed: 15.9 MByte/s
Reading speed: 18.7 MByte/s

The camera now takes JPG Fine images non-stop and 8 RAW+JPG Fine shots before a temporary pause, so no real improvement on RAW but a big improvement on JPG only.
