I currently use a Burton Zoom Pro 28l backpack for all my gear but when i just want to have a wander with the D200 and a 18-70mm, I don't want the hassle of taking packs of etc.

I know there seems to be a bit of thing these days for satchels/shoulder bags because they're handy and more compact, but are there any that really stand out above the rest? Have seen Crumplers being mentioned but they seem mighty expensive. Are they weatherproof too?

Reccomendations please.... :)

Have a look at Lowepro's Nova or Rezo range of shoulder bags. They are available in many sizes, most have their built in All Weather cover.
If you only plan on going out with body n lens then the Toploader may suit your needs.

If you're after a satchel look into Billingham bags. Some gorgeous satchels. I have one, not the cheapest, but you're paying for quality.

I bought a next satchel for 25 quid and put in a home made foam insert to hold my lenses with a slot for the camera - the way it goes together you can pull out and turn round the middle piece to have either of the two lenses its cut for on the camera with the other held next to it, theres room for batteries and cards and a speedlight in the front pockets
