The rubber 'ring' on the zoom-ring of my 28-70 f/2.8 was starting to come loose a while back - looked as though the glue had dried-up or something. Took it all the way off and noticed that there was very little glue residue there at all, leading me to think it wasn't done right in the first place.
Nikon were asking £96 for a 'repair' back in 2008 and I still hadn't got round to it...
I need to use it on a shoot next week, so...hmmm...

Looked in the basement and found this:

Cost me about £3.50 from Amazon (tis American) - and was the only thing strong enough to glue the sole of my German Lowa combat-boot back on in Afghanistan...(they didn't have Lowa's my size - 43 - and I didn't want the other type of boot available - Hi-Tech Magnum)...

Works a treat.

It is 'proper' glue, so under-18's can't buy it...

So economically speaking, you've only actually saved £92.50 ;)

I was facing forking out £150+ for a replacement 1D battery charger, due to it having 'non-serviceable parts' inside. I opened it up, swapped out a fuse and bingo it worked. Cost of fuse - 13p. Money saved - £149.87+ :D

Being proper glue, did it give you some inspiration after you glued your rubber grip back on?

I would have thought the ashtray would need some glue too.:naughty:

Nothing like liquid inspiration. Mine is usually Plymouth Gin, or Balvenie Double Wood (hint, in case anyone is feeling benevolent!)

I thought about that, but since I'd already bought it for another application, I think I've saved the whole amount...:D

I like a man that can do it himself. Yes and the Lowa boots are better...

Yep, and mine are the now-discontinued Lowa Desert Patrol lightweight ones without the silly rubber toe-cap...so I need to look after them...lol

I saved at least £150 by standing behind the drunk guys at a lap dancing club in Tenerife a few years back........;)

I`m not tight, merely frugal.

shoe goo is brilliant stuff

i race RC cars most weekends (during what we call a summer!) & shoe goo is a very important part of anybodys pitbox. we use it to repair bodyshells, seal things that just don't stop leaking, glue parts into the chassis (radio recievers etc) & most importantly plaing jokes on eachother by sticking tools to tables etc

you didnt just save money the hasle is stressfull.
trying to prove i have a warranty with nikon was a nightmare.
sent me all around the houses untill the service manager admited on her system i was fully registered.
yet they made me phone honeserve who then told me to contact nikon who told me to contact homeserve etc. etc.

The real reason every toolbox needs some decent toxic glue :-)

We use to play a joke on one of the guys when I was doing an apprenticeship, by placing all the half empty vending cups on his tool trolley before he got in on random days. One day in a fit of frustration he decided to just swipe them all off, but didnt realise on that particular day we had glued them all to the trolley and rather than fly off they all shattered and showered him with day old tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

We superglued shoes to walls, tools to walls, money to floors, pretty much anything that anyone didnt lock up when they went home. Good times.
