Saved The HD From Dead Laptop...

My laptop is dead and buried, but I saved the hard drive. Is there any way of recovering the data so I can transfer it to my new laptop?

Assuming it is a sata disk then something like this will do the trick but shop around for the best price.

if its a normal sata drive then just get a USB enclosure for it.

Depends what password you had set. If you had a password set in the BIOS to give access to the disk you may have probs unless you know it. However, if you just had a password for your windows account (and the files were not encrypted) then you will have no probs accessing the files.

I got something similar off ebay that does SATA and IDE and has a card reader on the front (which is as fast as my Lexar reader). Western Digital IDE drives don't fit (which I knew about) but apart from that I can't fault it.

Yup, get a docking station. Preferably one that can handle 2.5 and 3.5 inch disks and with USB3 and/or eSATA (because USB2 is horrendously slow for this sort of stuff). They really are useful devices.

Me too - that's what was replaced when I bought the docking station.

I have a LogiLink, similarly looking to your link.

It's a wee bit of a fiddle to sort out the connections but has worked perfectly on SATA and IDE discs using XP, XP64, Vista and Win7.
