Hi am I right in thinking that there is no loss in quality when you save and resave a tiff file ?
Is tiff still the best format to use ?
I realise that with jpegs its not a good idea to do this
I am working on a shot thats taking me a while to edit in photoshop
am doing a little bit on it each day:)
Its a very noisy not very sharp shot taken at ISO3200 in poor light but am getting there :D
thanks
Pete

Why not save the 'master' file as a .psd if you're working in Photoshop? That automatically preserves layers and stuff. I rarely use .tif. I will generally only save a copy as a .jpg at the end of editing, when its needed to send to someone else. Tif is lossless, but it doesn't make sense if you're working in Photoshop.

Ahh good idea thanks :)
I did see the option to save as a photoshop file will do now
thanks

For that job, psd is the way to go.

Don't sweat too much over the loss of quality of JPEGs when re-saved. it's like any format that has the option of losing quality - just remember to always save at the best quality available. I only ever drop the quality of my files during save for web. And there's no discernible difference between files saved at max. quality once and those re-saved 5 or 6 times.
