Hi all, I've been considering a lot of flash guns lately but found that for it's compactness the SB400 would be right for me. However I can't afford it outright and so I'm considering getting it from my catalog at £179.. I'll be using it to improve natural looking shots of my baby brothers mainly and also at my mums wedding for portraits, is £179 too much for this flashgun.. I know catalogs are always more, but £179 seems steep..

You can't bounce a SB-400. I wouldn't buy one at any price. Look for a second hand SB-600.

Also worth considering the Yongnuo YN-465/467 or Jessops 360AFD, both support iTTL and have tilt/swivel heads.

The Jessop's one I've heard feels really cheaply made - though others have said it's good - :S
As for the Yongnuo, I didn't know these existed! They look rather good for £45.. Do they feel tacky? or are they okay? I don't want anything to break, I/e the plastic horseshoe this is why I ask ^__^

i have just sold my SB400 on another site (net-model).it had long been sitting in my bag almost new/mint and little used and i had found my SB600s and 800s more useful.most unfortunately i was not able to sell it on here though i got my asking price of £75 for it.my advise to you would be too look around.£179 is far to much for one, even new.
