Sb800 flashgun broken - how to fix?

I managed to snap the wide angle diffuser off my sb800 this weekend :(

has anyone had a similar problem and know of a suitable self repair or the cost of a service repair as the flash is out of warranty.

Hi! thank you for your reply! I'm really cautious of opening it up and would rather leave it to the proffesionals.

Does anyone reccomend a particular company and does anyone who has has a similar experience care to estimate the cost of a repair?

I've emailed nikon repair but they just said i need to send it in so they can assess the problem.

Sorry I can't offer any help, but a word of warning if you try to fix it yourself. Flashguns use high voltage and can give a very nasty electric shock.
 
Thanks all. I have already been warned about opening up a flash and therefore am avoiding doing this!

Has anyone else used fixation? Are they cheaper than NIKON support? Any ideas what the cost may be?

You'd be best to phone them, but in all honesty, as long as you discharge the flash properly it's an easy job to do, probably take all of 5 minutes, you don't actually have to touch any of the electronics at all.

Undo (iirc) six screws, lift off the top, fit the new diffuser, reattach.
