Hi, i can't believe how bad this as afected me,....i have done my normal routine after being out and that is ,rocket blow my lens and clean with a micro cloth, tonight i have spotted a small scratch about 1.5mm and cannot for the life of wonder how it happend ......it is on my 400mm 5.6 which not even a month old....i suppose i will just have to live with it as i believe it will cost a small fortune to repair ....i could always ring my houseold insurance and see what they say

It will be fine Dennis, won't even show up on your photos, give it a try and see for yourself

After seeing the video of front element damage and how good the photo's still come out then a small mark on your lens is only likely to affect the resale value but not your photos. It is very annoying when it happens, I'm still trying to work out how I got a mark on my Sigma 150-500 OS, but you can't see it on the results and I'm certainly not likely to be selling it. Most people wouldn't have a problem buying a lens with a mark or two if they test it first and can see for themselves it doesn't affect the image.

Thanks it's just getting to me how it happened ,i know it's only a lens but it does afect you especialy when you look after them .

Oh I can only imagine how gutted you must feel, but as Rich says, it'll never show up on your shots...

Must be very frustrating not knowing how it got there though

I have a old Sigma EX 70-200mm f2.8 that had focusing problems so I sent it to Sigma for repair. 2 weeks (and £120) later it was returned to me, I checked the focusing and confirmed all was working perfectly and then put it in the cupboard until needed.

Took it out to use about 4 weeks later, went to give the front element a quick blow and noticed a scratch on the glass. Absolutely certain it wasn't there when I sent it but after 4 weeks there was nothing I could do about it.

Still works fine though. ;)

I have the same issue on the same lens, scratch is tiny, makes no difference, need to sell it now though :bang:
