Can anyone recommend something to lower the brightness of my screen, please? My monitor is calibrated, but I cannot lower the brightness enough to print effectively.
Cheers, Rob.I don't know if this is still available:

May be worth a look?

What monitor is it and what controls does it have? Have you got the gamma set the same between your calibration sw and OS?
You should have the ability to change the brightness and other parameters using the On Screen Display. A quick read of the instructions should tell you how to access them.
As stated in my original post I set them to the lowest point available and it's still too bright.
You state that your screen is calibrated. Usually part of the calibration process is to set the initial screen brightness, and contrast.
What calibration system are you using?
Yes, the screen has been set, but still it's too bright when I compare the shots I've had printed with my on screen version. I used the basic Pantone Huey. as far as I can see it's completely automatic.
If you are not sure what brightness level to select, then if you have a choice then try between 120-140 Cd/M2. This should be selectable with most calibration software and spectrometers
I didn't get to choose, unfortunately.
When you do a calibration First you have to set your monitors settings the brightness and contrast you have a menu button on the front of the monitor Did you not set then when calibrating?. What do you mean what controls? re gamma I don't know. How do I check what the OS is set to?

Are you embedding teh profile and checking it with proffing
there are 2 sets of brightness (& contrast) controls for the screen. You've mentioned the one on the monitor, but there is also one on the video driver.
if its any of the MS windows OSs you can right click on the screen then have a look in the graphics settings
Looks as though you've done everything right.
You should be using the monitor profile that the Huy produced as the default system profile. PS will pick that up automatically.
Cheers.
I don't know the Huey as I use the i-One device. Do you have a choice of screen brightness, or does it simply select the brightness for you.?
I had a problem monitor that wouldn't dim down enough fro me. I got round it by reducing the contrast level, to about 80%. This dropped the brightness enough to give me a good match, but I did recal the monitor after I made the adjustment.. It did give reasonable results.
No, it's completely automatic. It's already set the contrast to 70%.
Just as a suggestion, try contacting a lab that will supply you with a test image and print, just to eliminate any problems with your current lab.
I'm waiting on some prices from my friend who lent me the Huey as he runs a small print operation. That would be the easiest way if he's good enough value.
