the halo ring on the, its only on the LCD, not on the viewfinder nor does it show on images and it is there no matter which lens so its screen burn yes? but how? think this will be the first time I have seen such a thing on a camera lcd..

anything else I should be checking?

Thanks

I managed to burn a few marks on my 1DMkIII LCD by using an LCD loupe (Z-Finder in my case). It only takes a second or so to fry a small area.

No David, the screen cover was normal but the LCD behind it had cooked leaving discoloured patches (yellowish on the MkIII)....I guess that the liquid expands with the heat and "bursts" the small receptacles.

Impact damage to the LCD screen can cause an effect like that - if it's just a rather pale halo rather than a circle or ring or dead pixels. It's easier to see on soft screen LCDs like calculators where you can create the efect by pressing with a finger.

Hi strumstrum - only just seen this :( First off I'm really sorry you're disappointed with the OMD. I'd never noticed that ring (I'm assuming it's the circle in the lower right side of your photo?) when I had the camera, but I used the viewfinder far more than the rear screen so if it's faint I may simply never saw it. I've certainly not noticed anything like it on other cameras, so I've no idea how it would have been caused.

Just thought - I don't suppose there's any chance this is caused by some sort of interference pattern between the screen and the screen protector?
