Screw in CPL then filters?

Can I use a step up ring and 77mm CPL filter on a 67mm lens (next lens will be 77mm and prob next one after that too) and use the Lee adaptor and slot in filters or am I going to get vignetting?

Is it even possible to use a screw in filter and then the slot in filters as I know Lee fit the CPL on the other side but I am loathe to spend 200 notes on one and then the adaptor as well if I don't need to?

Found one answer- it is possible to use a screw in polariser with lee holder- just more problematic to rotate the polariser and then attach the holder.

Does also seem possible to use step up ring but lens hood would not be possible. Anyone doe this and have an issue with leaking light?

I would be concerned that that the polariser looking through the additional filters will show up any stresses in the resin (or glass) of those filters as rainbow colours.
I have read that the polariser should be the last filter fitted (i.e. on the end, furthest from the lens).

It's perfectly fine to use grad on top of a polariser. I often do it. On one of my lenses there's a stepping-up ring as well. i've never noticed any image degradation.

As far as filter holders go, I couldn't say, I just hold the grad against the rim of the lens (or polariser - if fitted).

The correct and easiest way of using a cpl with the lee filter holder is to use the cpl adaptor ring in the front of the lee filter holder and the cpl screws into that but, and it is a big but, is the cpl adaptor ring takes a 105mm filter. My b&w kasmann cpl to fit was £230 iirc. Having said that I would not be without my lee kit.

Thanks for that, I guess the rainbow effect mentioned may have a higher propensity to happen using cheaper filters or certain angle of light from the sun.

Think I'll go ahead with the 77m filter and step up ring.

I have seen a few people mention they hand hold the filter in this way- if you have it up against the rim of the lens have you ever noticed any vibration movement in your shots or problems holding the line still?
If I can get away without the holder and adaptor may do that too for the time being

I was figuring the correct way was at the front as a few searches drew a blank.
After a shiny new lens next so looking to bodge the filters a bit- obviously without stooping so low as to use cokin filters of course;)

Prob stick to the 77mm CPL- though if I had to buy the 67 and the 77 I may as well get the 105 but my brain's not buying that one now it knows the 77 is fine:lol:

I suppose if it was a long exposure there's a chance that the filter could move, but I'm not sure if this would matter that much.

Where you actually place the line on the filter within the image is a bit of a grey area (pun?) anyway - even with a hard grad. There's always an intermediate zone where the ND bit is less than full strengh. Any slight movement you make would be in that area anyway.

It might not suit everybody doing it by hand but if you give it a good try and you can't make it work, you could always then buy a holder.

On occasion I realise that the edge of the filter is within the image, but it doesn't happen very often and the image can be cropped.

Edit - never had rainbows.....

...an alternative to the Lee CPL might be the hi tech/ formatt CPL. It is also 105mm and half the price! I'd go with the Lee CPL mounting ring though.
Formatt told me it should fit as it is standard 105mm size.
