Yes
I've bought off Amazon via Emartbuyuk a 4gb Sandisk Ultra 2 SD card.

It arrived yesterday but isn't in the full packaging which is giving me a bit of concern.

Are SD cards normally sold only in the plastic case without any other packaging?

This item was as far as I am aware supposed to be new.

Sandisk cards should have a serial number stamped on them somewhere and the CF version comes with a recovery disk, don't know if its the same for an SD card.

Could you take a photo of it?

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer, not knowing what that is for Sandisk its difficult to say but it could be just the card or the card and the plastic case. Full retail packing will be printed box, paperwork and Ive always had a disk with Rescue Pro on it too.

I would have thought at the very least it would be in a sealed blister-pack, even if it wasn't in the outer cardboard packaging...

i had one in the same type of (well lack of) packaging.

i wont use it. now i will buy from 'proper' shops.

not worth chancing it imho.

Right, I thought I'd try the SD card last night, tried it in my compact camera just in case.

The card seemed to work in the camera but my computer just wouldn't read it at all so I've emailed to see about sending it back.

I've said I'll accept an exchange in the full packaging or otherwise a refund.

Lets see what I get back.

Thanks for the help.

The new SanDisk Ultra 30MB/s (replacement for the old Extreme III) come in markedly different packaging.

While the Extreme III came in a box with the free recovery software disk and the little Neoprene pouch and plastic case, the new Ultra just comes in the plastic case on a Cardboard/Plastic blister pack. No recovery disk is included.

Is this an SDHC card as although identical in size and shape to an SD card uses different way of writing and reading information and you need a special SDHC reader. Are you sure your computer can read SDHC cards? Most cameras can use SDHC cards ok, most older card readers cant.

Just a thought.

Hmm, order says it is a SDHC, wasn't aware there was any difference tbh, it just looked the same as my other cards.

My laptop has an inbuilt card reader so I'm not going to go out and buy another reader for a card that looks the same as all my other cards.

What the heck is the difference anyway? And how was I supposed to know it was different

Do I sound tetchy, can you tell its Friday and I've just about had enough of this week.

SD cards go up to 2GB, SDHC are over 2GB. :) HC just means high Capacity. SDHC cards are not backwards compatible.

It sounds like the dealer has bought them in bulk packaging, they come in a little plastic holder and as such are cheaper than the retail packed items, if you want it exchanged for one in retail packaging I would expect the dealer to charge you more. I have purchased quite a few like this from various retailers and have never had a problem with them and they have been the genuine item.

Cheers

My two year old lap top wouldn,t read a 4gb sd card via the inbuilt sd card reader. If you connect your camera with the usb lead to your computer it should read it.

as above you'll need a special usb card reader normally that supports SDHC, you can but these for next to nothing from most of the online retailers

Try the " Pound Shop" sd/mmc/rs-mmc usb2 reader works with my 8gb Lexar sdhc card and doubles as an 8 gb pen drive for £1 plus the sd card.

The best bet would be for me to have been more patient and not have already posted it back to them before you queried the SD / SDHC difference.

Now I just feel like a completely plonker but will solace myself this evening with a large brandy and a toblerone and thank the lord that another week is over.:bang:
