SD card read write permissions

Hi all

I have a 2Gb SD card used in my D50. When I slot it directly into my laptop to transfer the images, I used to be able to delete the ones on the card. Now I can't. It seems to have changed since I started shooting RAW, but I can't be totally sure of that.

The lock on the card is unlocked and I just can't figure out what has changed

Any ideas?

i think this is true

dont delete images on the card using the PC

copy the images to the PC

back-up to external HDD or DvD

and then, format the card in the camera

something to do with the camera allocating the file system or some such techie stuff...:shrug:

I had the same thing happen to me when I put an internal reader in my PC. If I use an external card reader I can erase the card or anything I want. If I use my internal reader I have to copy all my images onto the PC, then format or erase images in camera. It only happens on my SDHC cards though, not on any of my CF cards. Strange days indeed!

Hmm... interesting stuff. What baffles me is why I used to be able to do it, but now can't! The quirks of 't 'puter, eh? Ho hum.
