SD Card Speed

I'm looking at SD cards for my D7000 which just arrived. I'm thinking 90mb/s as a minimum, but wondered if 150mb/s cards will be noticeably quicker to clear the buffer?
 
not sure it would even write at 90 odd tbh, and you probably don't need 90 unless your mr machine gun.

that said integeral have 80 90 or so write speed cards for decent price :)

I shoot fast moving kids. The action happens very quickly and shooting in bursts is often the only way to get the shot. I had a D7000 before and came up against the buffer, but I don't recall the card speed I was using.
 
It's nothing to do with the speed of the card its to do with the speed of your camera that can write to the card, why pay a fortune for a 150ms card when your camera can only write at 60ms. 90ms card will be fine, works with 200mph motorbikes and 800mph aircraft :-)

It's hard to say that it's nothing to do with the card speed without knowing what he has already? Not sure what the write speed is for a D7000 but if your quoted 60mbit/s figure is correct then he doesn't need to go much higher unless he just wants to copy files off quicker (in a USB3 card reader or something) or make sure the cards are a little more future proof.

Not sure SD cards even go up to 150Mbit/s anyway? I haven't seen anything higher than 95Mbit/s for SD. Anything faster tends to be CF instead.
 
there's some new very expensive ones that do 150 or whatever, for 4k

the old SanDisk is still the best 95 95 card, but ill take 80 90 at way less price :D
 
Hi Dean,

There were a few comparisons I found before I bought cards for my D750 with actual write speeds. 95 mb/s was the quickest the 750 would take, pretty sure the prosumer end doesn't support the quicker UHS-II.

Ended up buying a couple of 32gb 95mb/s san disk SD's which were quickest in all tests, then added a couple of 64gb Samsung versions as a back up which scored quite highly too and were better value for money all round.

You wont be disappointed! I have 3 64gb Sandisk Extreme Pro & 1 32GB Sandisk Extreme Pro and they are fast in my D7100's. There is a noticeable difference between these cards and my old 40mbs ones.The Buffer takes nearly 3 times as long to fill!

I'm likely to buy a D7100 in a couple of months so decided to future proof.

Nice, If you do go to DigitalRev, My second camera was from there and nearly £250 cheaper than anywhere in the UK. It also registered for Warrenty on Nikons site as I'd been warned it may be a "Grey Import" but it was not.. Love them & I have no plans to change them for the foreseeable future
