Yes
I have 4 sandisk SD cards all extreme 16GBs 45MB/s and as far as i can tell all identical.
When I put them in my camera they seem to all be able to record a different number of photographs. 256, 498, 498, 562.
On a recent trip to China one of them would only take around 25 but since deleting all the files off them it has obviously changed. What is going on? Is there a way to reformat them?

If your saying that after formatting the cards in camera, one gives 256 and another card of the same size 498, then there is something wrong with the first card.

Are you sure they are genuine cards, or is one a cheap ebay fake of a 8gb card with a 16gb label.

Format the cards, sounds like one has a folder on it that the camera can't see that contains data. There is often a slight difference in the number of pictures a card will take as ISO and subject can effect the file sizes.

I always reformat in camera (important) rather than just delete.

Reformat them in the camera and then recheck the capacity.

If you can still see the discrepancies, did you buy the (apparently) lower capacity cards from Ebay or an Amazon reseller? Some fakes exhibit the symptoms you describe.

They were off Amazon but im almost sure they were actually from Amazon will have a mess about now and see if I can work out how to reformat in camera. Never done it before.

Ok worked it out. All saying 596 now. One said it had 8gb used on it. But nothing I cold see in camera or on my mac which is weird.
