SD ERROR ON My NIKON D40 THIS MEMORY CARD CANNOT BE USED.

I NEED SOME HELP WITH MY NIKON D40, IT IS ONLY A YEAR AND 2 MONTHS OLD, HOWEVER I DID NOT PURCHASE THE WARRANTY, "GO FIGURE" THE PROBLE IS THAT I GET A MESSAGE ON MY LCD sreen that reads SD error this memory card may be damaged, insert a new card: the problem is i have no card in the sd card slot, can anyone please help. it takes pictures when i insert a memory card but just as soon as card is ejected the error message reappears. would appreciate anyone advice

Try a new card. Sounds like the one you're using is foobared.

tried visualizing the slot looks okay however i am not sure if i would recognize a problem, i will say my husband nearly flipped at the sight of me with a flashlight and paperclip. i did however notice the card does not eject as it use to , i have to press down a play with it until it ejects, so you may be right, i remain open for suggestions

Do the shots you take when the card is inserted get saved to the card? If so, and from what you're saying the message only appears when there is no card in the body, what's the problem? You wouldn't want to take any pics with no card in the slot anyway?

Try reformatting the card in the camera - don't format it using a PC.
