My boss has just bought a 500D that uses SDHC cards. he took it with him on holiday over xmas, took loads of shots, but now when it comes to downloading them he's only got 12 that he shot yesterday.

He's tried it with a recovery program called Click and I' just tried it in several SDHC-compatible car readers just to see if that was the issue. he's also tried connecting the camera directly to a mac and a PC but still only those 12 shots appear.

The card is 4GB and is currently showing 2.7GB free space, so there much be more than 12 JPEGS on there - any ideas of how to recover the other shots and what's wrong in't first place?....
 
You've already answered my first question by trying an SDHC reader !

Can he view the photo's he took in the Camera playback :shrug:

Might be a corrupt card, what make is the Card ??
 
and where was the card bought from? sounds like it is a fake card, he reached the physical storage limit and it destroyed the data when it tried to write more to the card.
 
Andyred, no, he can't review the images through the camera's LCD. That was my first thought...

It's a Kingston card.Bought with the camera from the shop - don't know which retailer though. I've used Kingstons before and never had a problem.

Littlejohn, i's a disturbing thought but its totally within the realms of possibility...
 
mmmm, don't really know what to suggest.

Have you / he another card he could try to see if this gives the same problem

eBay reported that MOST of its advertised 2GB Sandisk cards were fake 256k geared up to report 2GB - somehow

i emailed Kingston US to ask about my new 4GB ...

the picture that Kingston sent me had the BoM [Bill of Material?] numbers on the front at the bottom - maybe USA model

i sent this to Kingston.....................

well I use a sandisk branded recovery program
seems to work a treat
2ndly you can go to PCworld and try a data recovery
no data, no fee. and it was pretty good when I worked there many moons ago.
they had a bespoke machine that stripped data from any media they could throw at it!
