Good afternoon all.

I need a fast/normal sdhc card reader for my pc. Does anyone know or can recommend one to buy?

I have one in my desktop PC but not needed to look at them for a few years.
A quick look on a certain auction site and there are loads which are quite cheap, even USB 3 ones are not expensive and I am now considering getting one for my new laptop as imho, USB 3 is well worth if for the gain in transfer speeds.
Only thing I would suggest is look at one that is branded as the price difference is nominal.

When you have purchased one, let us know the make and transfer rate when dumping those RAW files onto your desktop laptop (obviously I mean if you will be using USB 3) :)
 
Well that second link i was provided with, the reviews look dreadful but i like the results from the first link. When you say usb 3 do you mean usb 3.0?

Oops, sorry, yes I do
I've always been a fan of Sandisk memory cards but never used on of their card readers.
Personally I take reviews I read on websites like that with a pinch of salt and tend to look do searches for other reviews on products.
I'm certainly not saying that everyone who posts a review on there is clueless but some rerviews I have read on there have had me spitting out tea all over the screen :D

About 2 years. I read that this person had a windows 7 64bit and i have that. Iv been having trouble connecting my external hd to it too...but now it doesnt work with my laptop so i think its either the transfer cable or im doing something wrong.

USB 3.0 is backwards compatible – so in short yes it will work with most PCs. However in order to take advantage of the extra speed USB 3.0 offers (over USB 2.0) you need a computer with a motherboard that has native USB 3.0 ports on it, or alternatively you need to install a USB 3.0 PCI-E expansion card.

I use the Lexar Professional linked above as well as the Lexar Workflow system; I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

To get the speed advantage of a USB 3.0 hub you need a USB 3.0 port. They look the same as a normal USB port but are (usually) blue.

Having said that a USB 3.0 hub will still work in any USB port, but not as fast.

The Lexar card readers are great by the way. I have 3 of them.
 
I was watching something on jared polins video reviews about that one so i may get it. But i dunno how to go about the motherboard. I think at the moment iv not got the cash for a new one. I think ill go with the first link so thanks for your replies guys :)

A 2 year old PC will have USB 3.0, as part of the Windows update Microsoft included updates for Window 7 to support USB 3.0.
As already said USB 3.0 is backwards compatible so any USB 3.0 deviced will work on any computer with USB 2.0.
USB cables are dirt cheap, just buy a cheap replacement from the auction site and if it turns out the externan hard drive is faulty, the cost for the cable wont be a great loss or perhaps borronw one from a friend or family.
