SDHC class 6 card for Canon 500D - advice?

I've just bought a Canon EOS 500D from Jessops (£519 - bargain!).

The salesman advised me to get a class 6 SDHC card if I want to record HD video at 1080p.

Can anyone recommend a decent 16GB card? I'm not sure what write speed I should look out for. In the past I've used Sandisk, but not sure if I need an Extreme II or III.

Thanks.

I think with SDHC cards that "class 6" is the speed indication and that's the fast one.
If I'm right then in theory the make shouldn't make any difference, although I've no doube that in practice it could well do so.

Sandisk would be my recommendation anyway, never had any problems with them to date.

cheers

any class 4 or 6 should be fine with 500D, it's 2,4 or 6. 6 having the fastest data transfer rate and tends to be more expensive.

I think the 7d manual stated that 6 was required for the highest quality video, if you need it to record for a long time.

You should check your manual as to which type it requires for long videos, it probably also gives a hint as to the maximum time likely per type.

Edit: For photos of course, almost any old one would do.

Thanks for the info - just bought a SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 8Gb High Performance Card from Amazon for £33. Should do the trick!

I've been using an 8Gb Transcend Class 6 card with my 500D with no problems at all - they're often quite a bit cheaper than the sandisks.

i have the canon 450d and use a class 4 sandisk card, dont think the camera is fast enough to put the card to test. so i doubt u'll need anything more than 4-although nfor HD video i'd prob go for a class six. check ebay.
