Hey guys

carry on from my last thread reagrding the 1dsmark 2 and the 5d i didnt realise the 1ds mark 3 had full frame also.

How much is one of those likley to sell for second hand?

last one on here was £3K

well not really infact i was hoping my estimate was wrong, infact it was very optimistic to think it would be around the £2500 mark, o well the 1Ds IV is just around the corner im sure the prices will drop soon

unfortunately they hold there price really well eh, id love one too.

oooh yeah!

Euan

I have just had a hint around for sample images with the 1d mark 3.

Could you provide some via email at like iso 3200 and 6400?

at the same price as the 1dsmark 2 i might as well give the 1dmark 3 a look, how would you rate it, typically general photography and soon to start wedding and portrait

Ive not really pushed it to 6400 but can get some tomorrow and email them over to you. Ive had a quick look and found an ISO 3200 one (by mistake) of my daughter so you can see a portrait as well.

I love the Mk3, its a big old lump, heavy but i really cant fault it up to now. I cant comment on weddings though.

If you PM me your email i can send you a jpg but its 8 meg unless you want a resized one?

Picked up a 2nd hand almost unused 1ds3 for just over £3k last year
and although it's a brick to lug about blows away any other camera I've used
sensor is markedly superior to the 5d as is autofocus and with L lenses produces
amazing results just had one ,cropped, image blown up to 8m x 6m print stunning quality

I do weddings and use a 1D MkIII and a 1D MkII. I'll have a 24-70 on one and a 70-200 on the other. I do sport also for local papers so the 5D or 1Ds aren't much use to me in that sphere so the 1D is a great all rounder. The AF is unbelieveably fast and accurate compared to the 5D, 50D, 500D ranges and focuses exceptionally well in low light compared to the others, as you'd expect really for a 1D body.

Noisewise, they are clean up to 1600 and it's noticeable at 3200. However when you run it through noiseware cleanup afterwards it's not really noticeable except in B&W. It can sometimes add to the feel of a B&W pic though.

It's not too often I'd go over 1600 anyway to be honest at a wedding, floodlit football being the exception. With the 24-70 at 2.8 and ISO1600 you should be able to get 1/50 no problem in even the darkest of churches and if it's darker than that then isn't that what your flash is for!!

good point, the past couple of days i have been steering more towards the 1dsmark 2 and i really love the build although they are very much the same this is also FF, im still not sure if i would benefit from FF but with my len's at the moment im sure it wouldnt hurt

Thanks for the help

You will desperately want 70-200 on FF. The good news is F/4 non-IS is very affordable.

Ha yes thats the lens im going for funnily enough, having just got the 2.8 24 - 70 however i am impresse dwith the DOF and low light, but im not sure i can justify £1k for a hobby. Thanks for advice, do you have any pics of the 1dsmark2 on a 70 - 200f4 any sample pics i mean?

ISO 250 / 100. The photos vere only slightly sharpened (default Lightroom setting +25). That lens is flawless on 1Ds2, and still very good on 40D minus the lack of IS. The light was set up using a snooted flash on the background.

I would have the IDs MKII over the 5D although the 5D MkII is excellent the IDs is still in a different league IMHO. Works great with the 24-70mm f2.8L.

Thanks for the heads up, not having any experience with a "High Shutter Count" are we talking 40,000 > ?

WOW :O lol thats not bad at all, gives me a safe sense of security when i want to upgrade

Thanks
