Been thinking of getting a macbook to use with my work and bit of photo edit..
I.E. aperture 3 / lightroom

been offered by someone for 450 pounds
2006 macbook pro

15.4" screen
Intel Core Duo 1.83Ghz, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, ATI X1600 graphic card.

I am not sure the price because would like to of course cheaper
But is the price reasonable or not?

Any suggestion of others?

You'll struggle with either of those two bits of software on 1GB of RAM, you need to see whether it will take 4 as personally I think this is the minimum based on my own experience. With only an 80GB hard drive as well I'd be looking to pay a bit less, but I guess you can upgrade both the memory and the hard drive for a couple of hundred so it's not a bad deal.

My suggestion would be to look on ebay for price comparisons...

I have a 3 year old Macbook with similar spec. As far as performance goes its never let me down and still runs as it should. However I've had to replace the power supply twice, and the battery... luckily it all came within its Apple care and didn't cost me anything.
I'd just be wary of that as batterys are costly... and some versions of Macbooks have the battery installed so they can't be taken out manually.

I searched the wiki and it says it doesn't take 4GB RAM and max is only 2GB..
But I am not that bothered about the HDD as I have a external to store my RAWs

I have looked on ebay for few days already.
But most are more than I currently can afford.
Looking at 300-450 pounds max.....

Also would like to know that if the GMA950 graphic enough for lightroom/aperture 3?

I have that model with 2GB RAM, it coped OK with Aperture 2 when I tried the demo version, I don't have lightroom, but Photoshop CS4 runs fine. I would like a bit more speed, currently I run with a large screen and external keyboard, BTW I upgraded the hard disc to a 7200 rpm Hitachi Travelstar 7K320 which is 250GB, that's a lot faster than the original HD and gives lots of space.

O right thanks..
So is it because the CPU is not fast enough for Aperture 2?
