Hi

I am coming to the stage where i feel my kit lens is suffering and from what i have heard kit lenses are WAy under par.

I own a sony A300 alpha with kit lens, and some close up diopters in the post, with a tripod.

I hav read a lot about all different types of lenses but i want to know which ONE to buy.

I know the commone question is what do you shoot, but i like to shoot everything. I am thinking of a zoom lens, or an all round lens, or a nifty fifty which i have heard mumblings on this forum!

Which one is best? What lens did you buy second? Oh and also i want to spend way under 300 quid.

Thanks so much for helping

Jonny

i had bought myself a minolta 50mm f1.7 to replace my kit lens and it was worth it, the colours and build quality are unbeatable compared to the kit lens. the only downside is that you might want a wider lens which i need and so a sony 30mm f2.8 macro would complement it, especially as its a macro lens so you could experiment with macro. both these lenses will be cheaper than a zoom lens and better IQ.

I'd get something a bit wider range than a couple of primes to be honest. I have a 28mm and whilst it's great, on a cropped sensor it's not that wide. Something like a 17-50mm or a 16-105mm might be a better option?
