Second monitor on MBP - Lid Closing

Is there anyway to keep the second monitor (External) working on m MBP when I shut the lid? I have replaced my Mini with one and when I'm not using it as a workhorse I like to connect it up to my TV to browse the net, watch films and listen to music.

At the moment when I shut the lid the MPB goes into sleep - I know you can change that on Windows but is there any way to do it on OSX?

Driving me insane so advice appreciated.

Seems strange there isn't a more official way of doing it but that workaround seems to work for me.
Cheers for that.

Strange, but I guess if you are going to shut the lid you will have a keyboard and mouse.

It is fairly easy from a shut down state if you have external keyboard/mouse. Plug everything in, press power button, shut lid, it wakes up normally, but with external display as only display.

Yep, the one in the manual.

p70 for the MacBook Pro, but no one ever reads the manual....

:D

Don't know what you're implying ;)

I work on a macbook all the time with an external monitor and keyboard, running snow leopard, when I shut the lid the external goes blank then wakes up as soon as I move the mouse. I never read the manual unless I've got a big problem
