I've been doing a bit of thinking about my photography over the last few days and I'm wondering about my options.
I currently own a D200 and D700 (the D200 is my backup camera for the odd occasion when I shoot an event). When I bought the D700, video wasn't important to me and neither was increased resolution, which is why I didn't hold out for the D800, but now it's a different story. I have a GoPro which I use for snorkelling and everyday stuff, but I'd love to be able to supplement this with some nice shallow depth of field video from an SLR. Which of course leads me to thinking about a new camera.
I thought about just getting something like a D3200 and maybe just selling the D200, but I have some great lenses which deserve to be on a full-frame body. The D800 is too expensive and I don't need/want 36mp, so it's looking like the D600. I was quite excited about this until I read that it doesn't have the ability to zoom to 100% in playback with one button press something I'm really used to from my current cameras. This will irritate me beyond belief (I've already fired off a ranting email to Nikon!), but I can probably live with it. The other thing that will annoy me is the clustering of AF points in the middle of the frame, but again, I can probably live with focus-recompose.
I've been offered £900 part ex for the D200 and D700. I know I could get more selling them privately but I need to get this new camera in the next couple of weeks so hassle-free is preferable. Plus, there's the £150 Nikon rebate which will help. Ultimately the D700's resale value will continue to drop, so I'm probably better off selling it now, even if I just stick with the D600 for a couple of years.
Most of this post has just been me re-affirming my own decision
but I have a couple of questions for you...
For those who have made the D700 to D600 jump, is there anything that really stands out as a serious negative for you?
Also, could someone tell me what the going rate is for a boxed with accessories D700 on here as I can't access the classified forum yet.
Thanks!
