Sell me a Fuji XT1

I have been a happy Nikon D200 user for a few years now. But due to maturity I am finding it rather too heavy to lug around.

I have been looking at the specs Fuji XT1 over the last few weeks. But am rather confused due to the conflicting reports.

Can anyone out there sell me the idea of changing systems to the Fuji XT1
 
Hi Keith, I went from a Nikon D300 and D700 to Fuji a few years ago. I now have a Fuji X10 and x20 along with a X-pro 1 and XT-1. I don't think I will ever go back to DSLR's. The small size is the biggest factor for me, the lens range is good although not as many as Nikon/canon and at present no third party choices. The one drawback in terms of the XT-1 is the auto focus speed which isn't on a par with a dslr yet. It is good enough for my needs as wildlife/sport isn't something I shoot. Have a look at the XT-1 owners thread to get an idea what it can produce in the right hands.

Not got an Hour to spare these days, let alone 3 weeks.

Herbert, thanks for your reply especially regarding the AF. I take it that you have the latest firmware update? Which has not improved the AF
 
I was shooting kids motocross on Thursday and although they wern't going above 30-40 mph, the Af was fine. There are rumours that the next firmware update this month might boost AF speeds-will have to see.
 
What's the intended use for the system? For anything other than fast moving birds or aircraft, I reckon the Fuji will beat the Nikon D200 and even those subjects might be better captured with the Fuji (been a while since I flogged my D200!) Where the Fuji system is currently slightly lacking is in the long native fit lens department - current longest lens is the 50-230 although there's a 100-400 due for release soon (has been soon for about a year...)

LOVE the X-T1 and can live with its limitations and don't run into them too often anyway. The lack of mass compared to even my old D70 system is a godsend when carrying it any distance - and I have an FF Nikon system for when I'll be close to mechanical transport anyway!
 
Keith, I was shooting with a Sony A700 for a large number of years which was a heavy old lump and, due to medical issues, became very problematic for me so I switched to the X-T1 a month ago and have been very impressed so far. The size & weight difference is massive and the ISO performance s night & day compared to the Sony.

Of course this could probably be said of any of the mirrorless options out there but the X-T1 certainly felt the best one for me but, at the end of the day, it's a personal choice so only you can make it.

There are Samyang & Zeiss lenses available in X-Mount although I have no idea as to the quality of the Samyangs.
 
Keith, I have just made the move to X-T1 from Nikon D800E/D300 for similar reasons. There are things you will have to get used to moving to mirrorless but the f/2.8 zoom glass is every bit as good as Nikon.
 
Thank to all for your experiences of moving from DSLR to Fuji XT1. It now remains for me to go find a local shop to hold it in my hands, and make a final decision.


I will want to buy from a Bricks and Mortar establishment rather than the internet. Not that I have much choice on that matter. Might have to go to Norwich and visit WEX.
 
As you are moving from DSLR it would be worth considering one of the grips as the camera on its own feels very small after handling a Nikon.

Well I had a Fuji S5 previously, which is a Nikon D200 with Fuji's superior sensor in it. I can now take ALL my gear in a tiny bag, whereas I'd had to buy a massive bag to get the S5 setup in. AF on the XT1 is comparable with my Tamron 17-50mm on S5. Nikon lenses were much, much slower, even the slowest Fuji ones are faster on the XT1 and quieter. IQ of the Fuji lenses is far better and the sensor does a better job of them too than the DSLR.

Really good move in my book.
 
What are the conflicting reports you've been reading? Not too much negativity out there that I'm aware of, reviews are virtually all very positive.

I've thrown the kitchen sink at my X-T1 and it keeps coming back for more.
