Next week, I’m sending my Canon 7D to be cleaned and recalibrated. While I have no issue actually sending the unit away, I’m not sure on the postal service I should use.

I will be sending it back in its original box with caps and such, but should I simply send it via Royal Mail? My main concern would be any damage from any other couriers, actually even RM for that matter.

It will be going to a Canon approved technician in Kent, 140 miles from my location.

Recommendations?

We send out dozens of items every day and I can assure you that losses or breakages are extremely rare. But you don't want to take a chance, so the best bet for you is Royal Mail Special Delivery. It's insured against loss or damage for up to £500 as standard, and you can increase that to £1000 or more for a token extra payment. Pack it well and you'll be fine; keep the total packed weight under 2kg and it will be inexpensive.
