Sensible or OCD

Recently I have found myself trying to insure against all possiblities of mishaps such as battery failure, lack of memory cards, excessive backing up in case of computer problems, back up camera just in case of who knows what etc etc

Apart from lugging far too much about its taking some of the enjoyment out of my hobby

Is this just being careful or the onset of OCD? Perhaps its the curse of getting older and being too sensible, much more carefree and reckless as a youngster

If its just me then will have to take steps to rectify the problem, so just wondering does anyone else feel this way

Yes, but then it's my job. If it were still 'just' a hobby, I'd probably be a bit more lax in things.

I doubt I'd have back up kit and second bodies if I wasn't working... Still obviously pays to have a decent back up of your files of course.

yup, it's my job, my backup equipment is there to make sure that I can complete any job.

digital storage, my photos are my livelihood, so needless to say I take that storage very seriously.

I wouldn't have a raid array plus local and offsite backups plus cloud storage if I was a hobbyist, and I wouldn't have a second body either.

It's only a hobby for me but I still make multiple backups and carry plenty of cards, batteries etc just in case. Don't always bother with a spare body - never had one let me down.

Same here, if I'm shooting my own stuff one camera, two cards two batteries, chuck it in a crumpler and I'm off

It's only if I would be in trouble if anything went wrong then I'll use backups.

Don't actually take the back up body with me, but like to know I have one in the cupboard if needs be, along with charged up batteries

I guess it depends what your doing, and who your doing it for

If your checking the charge of your batteries 3 times before going out or backing up the PC the moment you put a single photo on it instead of scheduling a daily back up (assuming your an enthusiast and not pro) then yep that could be the start of OCD.
To be honest though it just sounds like the belt and braces approach to ensuring you have adequate backups just in case.
If it's starting to affect your enjoyment then hit it head on try limiting yourself when you next go out.
I would suggest, the battery in the camera, the memory card in the camera and only one spare lens that will fit in a pocket.
It will make you think about shots more and should also show you what fun it can be to let a little risk creep in.
