Hi,

My 1 year old Canon 550D has a few small black marks on the images when shooting into a bright background. It persisted after I tried the auto sensor clean and using a manual blower on the sensor. Any advice on cleaning the sensor please?

You'll probaby need a wet clean, so buy some swabs to suit your sensor size and some cleaning fluid like eclipse or smear away.
 
Blower should have removed the loose dust, but you've obviously got lots of sticky dust!

Not a problem though:

Buy some cleaning swabs and eclipse fluid.

- Take a swab - stick a couple drops of fluid on, swipe from left to right , ( then flip the swab ) and left to right again...

- Sensor clean.

The smear away and eclipse seem pretty similar to me. The one I havent found as good is one of the other visible dust ones called sensor clean. Its only designed for light dust and not oil stains or sticky dirt, so doesnt really do much.

I dont recall using the Vdust Plus, so cant comment on that.
 
Pretty much as I thought. Even though, the Eclipse and Smear away still wont budge some of the crap on my D700 sensor. Seems welded on there!.
 
Maybe a drop of fluid straight onto the sensor would dissolve them - not sure if this is a wise thing to do though.
 
My sensor needs a wet clean as I have tried the "Dust Aid" dry method. It lifted most of the smaller stuff but there is one BIG blob I cant shift. My local LCE has offered to a wet clean for £30. I think I will put it in and then maintain it with the dry system.
