been thinking of upgrading but dont know how many mp is best ???
any comments welcome

I'm struggling to understand what you're after here. If you want to switch to full-frame (it's not necessaily an upgrade, depending on what you shoot) then your only Nikon options are the D3 or D700 at 12 MP, or the D3X at £££££££££££.

If you mean what I think you mean then there's a lot more to picture quality than the mega pixel figure of the camera. So basically just need to research the camera you after.

hi guys
what i mean is whats the diff in 12mp or 24mp on the same size sensor ??
is it less noise with less mp or less quality with 12mp
also do you get less noise with 12 mp

:bang:

It doesn't quite work that way in reality....

You need to look at the specific camera and understand its capabilities...

Noise should be less with lower pixel density but that doesn't always translate..

A camera is also a lot more than just its noise characteristic

All other things being equal, more MP on the same size sensor will give you (a) more resolution (if your lenses are good enough); (b) more noise at high ISO settings.

But all other things are almost always not equal, because technology progresses so fast. It's only a valid comparison if the two cameras were launched at the same time, and not necessariy even then.
