I have started to question the performance of my camera/equipment at last. Having owned the Sony A700 for four years now, I am now starting to question the amount of noise and the degree of sharpness which it produces.
At anything above 400 ISO I can really tell the difference, and that is with well exposed shots not requiring further cropping. However, I am not sure if it is true with all the lenses.
I use a mixture of manual focus (mostly old Takumar and Pentacon) and Minolta lenses (from the "beercan" period - mid eighties).
I would say that the manual focus lenses produce the best shots with regard to noise and sharpness (I use them mainly for close up nature work with extension tubes for butterflies and the like), closely followed by the 70 - 210 F4 Minolta, which has always had a good reputation.
I am considering keeping the A700 as a second body and upgrading to something else in the Sony range, but would I notice the difference in IQ?
I am not someone who is taken in by the latest gadget and will try to get the best out of something before changing.
It may well be that it is my lenses which need looking at, but on the other hand it could be the sensor/processor on the camera.
