Yes
About 12mths ago i got a mark on my pentax k10d sensor which i have been unable to remove via cleaning, even professionally, does anybody know of anywhere they could recomend to either have the sensor replaced or have the filter over the sensor replaced, obviously if its going to cost more than the cameras worth i wont bother but it would be nice to know if it could be fixed.

Just send it back to Pentax for a quote.

I won't ask how you managed to permanently mark the sensor, but it cannot have been easy  But if it can be cleaned, Pentax can do it. Or replace it.

An update for anyone interested or with the same problem. If you read my thread you will know that i had what i thought was a scratch on pentax k10d sensor. Well today i grabbed the bull by the throat and opented her up and used a cotton wool bud with a drop of lens cleaner and rubbed it over the ofending marks then dried it of with the other end of the bud, wiped sensor with a cleaning cloth, and low and behold mark/sratch gone! i cant believe it i thought go for it if it doesnt work i,ve lost nothing, so if in doubt as a last resort have a go yourself, cheaper that £250 for a new sensor!

Crazy.
Fair play to you for having a bash with nothing to lose, but I'd expect that to do some permanent damage. I'm chuffed it worked out for you.

My K10D has definately got a scratch on the sensor (caught it with the rocket blower months ago). Pentax no longer do their own repairs and the recommended service agent is quoting £160 + VAT.

Trouble is they are also taking up to a month on repairs.

I've got a dodgy mark on my 5d which was a PITA on some f/22 white background shots the other day :(. I did my usual cleaning practice, and then to my horror it seems on of the specks stuck to the sensor was quite abrasive and has scratched it. No evidence of it on wedding shots - phew, and I've used 8 swabs to try and improve it but it's still there, although a little smaller than before.

I think I'll wait til the quiet time of the year and send it to Canon and see what they say.

I would be weary of using cotton buds as the fibres are liable to stick to what you are cleaning. There are several sensor wipes on the market, also a fairly new product which fits the sensor , a pad type thing, and you dab it onto the sensor, supposed to be very good. One should be able to find them either on ebay or google search. Alternatively cut down a lint cloth and place it over a cotton bud , the fibres in lint don't stick to the sensor. I was always getting dirt dust particles on my old cameras and last year purchased VisibleDust Artic Butterfly together with the VisibleDust Sensor Loop.

What do I think of them? the Butterfly is ok for very light dust but don't expect it to remove heavier particles because it won't, as for the Loop, in my book its a must and just as important bit of kit as a protective lens filter. Its astonishing what can be seen in the way of marks/dust on a sensor.
