In two minds whether to stick this here, or portraits :)
It's a pretty good sign that I've not been able to get out when I start buggering about with GIMP!

Liam Sepia by Michael B O'Brien, on Flickr

(The original colour version is right next to this one on my Flickr).

Very nice, reminds me of the early settlers in the U.S for some reason.

That looks very good, may be the clothes but similar to above it actually makes me think of an old amish picture. Well, minus a beard obviously!

Big difference between this image and the normal colour one on flickr!

Thanks, Matt :)
As well as the B+W/Sepia simulation, I photographed a plain sheet of white A4 printer paper at an angle to light it unevenly. Desaturated, inverted and ramped up the contrast. I then added this as another layer with opacity adjustment to the top layer to suit, for more texture and the fading effect.
Although I'll probably not use textures too much, I may build a small library. Maybe scan various material directly. Leather, Denim, poly-cotton, Cordura etc. Something to do on and for a rainy day :)
Of which there are many here, at the moment :(

I'm not a fan of grainy shots but this one works really well. It's a great image.
