Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone had one of these in soft format. I've been googling on the net for a while and can't find anything for it. I've found the user manual.

If anyone has anything or can point me towards one, will be very grateful!

Thanks an advance! :D

I've got one for the 40D which is pretty much an identical build with a few different part numbers. It's around 40Mb so would have to be put on a CD and posted.

If you have a look at this link ..... User manual is at number 1 (obviously) and anything else you might need.
Did you actually read the question? He doesn't want a user manual, he wants a service / repair manual.

The link is for the 50D for all the FAQ's, manuals and important information. I don't know exactly what the OP needs as I've never seen a service / repair manual, I was just trying to help. I've had 4 Canon bodies now and I've never had anything called a service / repair manual with any of them. Maybe the 50D is special and has one that comes with it, but the 550D, 7D, 5D MkII and 5D MkIII don't have one.

Stuart.....
The Repair/Service manuals aren't issued by Canon except to their tech's and third party support outfits. They cover dismantling, parts replacement, reassembly and adjustments (mechanical, electronic and software).

Hi Bob, I've tried pm'ing you but says user doesn't exist, can you pm me and I'll reply. Really appreciate this.

The reason I need one is, I've been offered a camera at a good price but the top scroll wheel is slipping. I roughly know how to fix it but would like the safety of a guide.

Will upload it for a short while if Bob is ok with that in case anyone else wants it.

Thanks

It appears that I've just been "downgraded" to Pentax Bob.....castration with engineering bricks would have be the preferred punishment :crying:

Thanks Bob, I had kind of worked that out after a bit of Googling and even Binging. These manuals (specially in soft format) must be harder to find than rocking horse droppings. Having said that, I'm buggered (if I can say that) if I'd want to go tinkering about inside my camera even with a book to look at.
I've built and repaired quite a few Vespa scooter engines in my past, even without a manual, but a camera is something else. I saw a post earlier of a guy who'd removed his AA filter from a new 5D3 and felt like weeping when I saw the parts all over the place.

Stewart, no probs with the sarcasm, I suppose my second post was a bit sarcastic and I appologise also. I just didn't know about the service manual and by the OP's low post number, I didn't know how experienced he was and if he'd even checked the Canon site.

Hey, no worries...its not something I would usually undertake but given the price of the repair. I've decided its worth a shot as its more than half the price of the camera for labour.

Anyway thanks for all the replies. Will post up a link when I upload it.

Edit:
After reading the thread closer, I saw it's the 40D manual you provide, which I already got.
Sorry for the confusion.
Edit end

Hello guys,

I just registered, because I was searching for the service manual of the 50D all over the internet, but couldn't find it.
Unfortunately it is broken since 2014 and was repaired by a german Canon "specialist" (he does it private) but I can't reach him anymore.

So it would be nice, if anyone could send me the service manual via PM or else.

I will PM vimto2000 (last activity in October 2015 so probably no luck) and Canon Bob (who will hopefully answer as he is still active on this forum).

Thank you in advance!

Cheers

Hi all,

I'm refreshing the topic
Also need some support with blurry images.

Few years ago I sent my body 50D to a Polish Canon service. They've adjusted the AF using some standard ( I guess some other lens).
When the body came, I had to micro adjust the AF on the body... it worked for my 24-105 lens, but micro adjustment was out of range for my 50mm 1,8 lens...until now it's lying somwhere in the closet... i've decided recently to back this lens to life... but I want to avoid sending the lens and camera to the service again... can I make the body adjustment by my own? did somone try this?

Nevertheless, I would rather try to do it myself...i just need a service manual...can I also ask one?

Best regards

The MA for the 24-105 will only apply to that lens, the camera recognises it and applies the MA when it knows it's attached.

You can MA the 50mm and it won't affect the adjustments made when attached to the 24-105. You won't need the manual for this as its a simple + and - adjustment.

Thanks Odd Jim, I know that and I did as you said. However, the scale is from -10/+10 only ( as far as I remember)... for my 50mm lens I would need somewhere around +30....:) that is why I can't use MA for the 50mm lens...that is why I am trying to solve the AF inside the body without involving canon's service...if possible...?

If it needs that much I'd question the body service carried out by Canon if it was ok before?

if it was ok before?

At the very begining everything was fine..AF was not as accurate as I wanted to be but i guess it was me who was responsible for that... but despite that, all lenses were working fine ( were sharp at point and so on). Now my 50mm lens cannot be adjusted by the MA software...24-105 has been adjusted, but for the 50mm there's no scale.

I just want to try to move the AF in the body somehow... maybe a necessity of MA will dissapear for the rest of my lenses as well...

P.S. Manual focus works perfect...just AF fails...

When the camera AF is adjusted by Canon there are 2 ways that they can do it:
1. mechanical adjustment of the AF sensor in the body.
2. software adjustment in the body.

Normally these would be done in that order, the software adjustment being like a fine tuning. Both of these adjustments will affect all lenses that are fitted to the body.

A similar process is carried out with each individual lens, both mechanical and then a fine tuning of the software within each lens.

If you make a mechanical only adjustment to the body then all lenses fitted to that body will be affected equally. It is not possible to make a mechanical adjustment to the body that will only apply to one lens.

I would suggest that your 50mm lens is faulty and the software calibration within it has been lost or it has a mechanical fault.
Try fitting your 50mm to another camera to see if the fault is with the lens before you think about adjusting anything in the body.
You are more likely to mess your camera body up if you start trying to make your own adjustments to the mechanical part of the AF system

If you want the 40D service manual just google for "canon 40d service manual" and it will come up very near the top of the list as a PDF.

Hi Vim,

Came across this old post today. I noted you encountered a "top scroll wheel slipping".

I have a similar issue but, funny thing, repeated scrolling seems to have corrected it. I'm wondering if some debris might have infiltrated and somehow temporarily blocked the mechanism.

Any thoughts?

regards

Michael

Hi Michael @Goodwinm and welcome to TP

As you noted this is an old post/thread with last post before yours from Sept 2016..............................and the member you address (vimto2000) was last "seen" at TP in Oct 2017, so I think this is rather like the the Norwegian Blue Parrot of Monty Python fame.

Having said that, TP is great resource and sharing forum so do stay and get stuck in :)
