setting buttons/presets

Wouldn't it be a great help if the modern dslrs if today had programmable buttons, so you could flick your exposure settings quickly and easily whilst shooting different scenes in a short space of time.

is that not what the C1 C2 C3 are for ?

You can adjust the settings of the 7D buttons quite a lot and its got several custom modes which you can record different exposure settings.

ill do some investigating... i've always lived in M, the rest may as well be jibberish/Nikon to me.
