Having just read another post where someone's white balance was slightly off I thought I would pass on a tip that not everyone will have seen. It's not MY tip it came from the DTown TV episodes (See here if you haven't seen them yet) and it goes like this:

To set perfect white balance, start live view and look into the LCD on the back. Press the white balance button and adjust the white balance until the whites on the LCD match those you are actually looking at! DONE.

I've tried it and it works really well. Obviously most people will have seen this one before but still a useful tip.

been doing this since getting the 50D

I understand how to set a Custom White Balance manually on the Canon 50D, but did not believe we can "change it in Live View" as it appears to be on the Nikon range.

Can you elaborate how this is done on your 50D please?

Thanks

Been doing it for years on my mobile, compact and bridge ;)

i do this all the time on my sony a300, its about the best thing live view is good for if not the only thing.

i found the a300 very good at adjustments with quick responses from the live view system
