Yes
I am heading into Grizedale Forest tomorrow for the Grizedale Stages Rally - this will be my forest rally with my new 1D MkIIN.

Having moved up from a 50D to the 1DII, mainly down to the superior auto focus system I would like some advice and insider knowledge on the settings it is best to use for motorsport shooting.

Are there any benefits to having all 45 auto focus points activated or is it better to use 11 or 9 active/centre points?

Also, one thing with the 50D was to turn off the in camera high ISO noise reduction - is that still the case with the 1DIIN or shall I turn it on?

As you can see I'm after picking people who have this camera or experience with this camera's brains in the hope that I can go in a bit more prepared and play around with minor settings rather than have to work it out from scratch in the morning.

Any help and advice appreciated.

Dont wory about focus points just use the centre one, I never used high iso noise reduction on, just bang it on to A1 servo and fire away.

sounds good to me although I'll shift the focus point depending on the composition I'm looking for.

So there is no loss in AF performance in using any of the 45 points? I know, typically, the centre point is quicker focusing but are there any performance benefits from only having 9 or 11 points?

Composition wise I'm quite comfortable moving away from centre point.

Forget about custom function 13, leave that on 0 45/centre and use C.Fn-17 AF point activation set to 2 expand (13 max). C.Fn 13 is used for spot metering.

Just shift the autofocus point from centre if required, for example to get front of car in focus rather than the side as you pan like in this image, focus point to right of centre
