Please go easy on me, this is my first post on here.

I want to get some shots from a moving car to get a blurred/moving at speed effect. Any suggestion for settings and how do I set the focus.

I won't be driving when I'm shooting btw and the shots will be taken either from the side window pointing forwards or out the top of the sliding sun roof.

I've already tried but camera shake is a real problem.

Thanks

Ruggy

You are going to need a great deal of luck to get a nice sharp image from a moving car while you are trying to shot another moving car espeically if you are wanting to get the "blurred/moving" effect id say. Your settings will all depend on how fast the car you are in is moving and how fast the subject car is moving.

The reason you are getting the camera shake is becuase to get the "blurred/moving" you need to use a shutter speed of 1/320 or 1/250 and if your already moving, and trying to pan your camera on the subject, thats alot of movement. Your going to want your AF in AISERVO (thats the Canon setting) so that you can constantly track the subject car. Your also going to want to stop your lens down a bit to get the whole subject nice and sharp. Id use either aperature priority setting or manual dependign what you are most comfortable with.

What equipment do you have?

IF you use flash set it to REAR CURTAIN, this flashes at the end of the time that the shutter is open so the light blurs in the direction of movement and looks right! (Just learnt this one myself - Thanks -Rob- :))

thanks,

i have a Panny G1. i'm after this type of thing (an unfocused and really washed out poor shot i know, that is quite embarrassing tbh)

i'm going to have another go this weekend with different settings with ap mode and moving focus thing which i have but don't know the name!

i also wonder if it'd be easier to tweak it with radial blur ;)

maybe at night would be better too

i think to be honest i'm after this type of shot which i think is amazing which i found on flickr (i hope i'm not rule breaking by posting a link to someone elses picture.

The key thing with the bike shot is that the area of the bike is sharp, on your image you don't seem to have a point of focus...

If you focused on the dash board to be sharp, all the rest would seem blurred....

Hope that makes sense?

Yeah I guessed that, so suppose out the top of the sun roof onto the bonnet it is!
