Good afternoon all,
I read a thread a while back about printing sizes and sharpness, where it stated that if you print at X size you wont notice small amounts of image blur / softness until you print at X size...
For instance, if taking a portrait style picture at F1.4, you'd expect it to be a little soft, but with an excellent narrow DOF background. Now if I printed that picture on 6X4" paper, I would be fairly safe in saying the customer wouldnt be able to tell that his left eye was a little soft (as opposed to if I had taken it at say F8) as an example....
However if I blew that image up onto A3 paper then his soft left eye might become more apparent..
Likewise with blur due to camera shake...small amounts of blur arent noticeable on small prints right?
Is there such a thing as a chart which indicates sharpness/blur noticeability vs print size?
Strange question I know... but Im soon to be doing a shoot for a friend and would like to use f1.4 for most of it, knowing that the images would be sharper if I used a higher F, but I want that narrow DOF look, and I just would like to know how big I can risk printing before it becomes an issue..
This isnt about pixel-peeping, as I fully understand how narrowing the aperture can improve IQ when pixel peeping, this question is about printing onto paper
TIA
Nick
