I want to go on a 5/7 day safari in Africa but I have an issue that would need to be resolved before I can do that.
I work in the Oil & Gas industry in Angola on a 28 days on 28 days off rotation. I live in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and when I travel back to work each time I fly through Johannesburg. My plan would be to take a 5/7 day Photo Safari on my way to work but the problem I would have is where can I leave my $20k worth of camera equipment when I continue back to work for a month, as I would not be allowed to take that with me into Angola due to customs/excise regulations and general corruption in Angola.
I was thinking of using DHL to send it back to KL for me but the cost would be horrendous for +/` 20 kilos of camera equipment and bag.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Pay for a flight and accommodation, I'll look after it for you!

On a serious note, I have no idea. Is there not secure storage depots there like you can get here and in the US?

So you need somwhere safe in Johannesburg ?,maybe have a look at a safe deposit box at a bank, dont how much it would be.

Unless you know someone you can trust in Johannesburg,i think your going to have to pay to have it shipped back to KL :(

Just one thing does your co you work for in Angola, have an office in Johannesburg

^^^^^^ Having second thoughts now as I just won’t feel comfortable leaving any of my stuff in JBourg.
Photo Malaysia are planning a Safari in 2013 so I will just wait until they go and join in with my buddies there.............Unless Talk Photography plan Safari Trips, then that would be a good option:):):)

there must be somewhere in j'burg that hires camera gear - why not just rent a body and long lens for a week and just take your own cf cards
