Shoot locations

For people who do car photography, if you have to travel to a different town/place, how do you go about finding a decent location for the shoot? A bit of research on google maps or do you have a look around before hand?

Google Street view & google maps, works ok it seems. Screen shot it and print off, put in a file with the address, draw up a route too of all the places in the right order.
