Hi all,

What is your opinion of this method of lighting for portrait?

How do these rate against softboxes?

Thanks all

In theory the light is very similar because, unlike reflective umbrellas, shoot throughs can be placed very close to the subject so they can produce soft lighting.

But in practice it depends, because if they're used in a small space the light will go everywhere, bounce off walls and ceilings and generally b**** up any control that you thought you had.

Cheers for your advice Gary, have opted for a Softbox as I feel the light may be a little more controllable. (y)

Also it's not very efficient. You can lose a fair bit of light due to reflection. Softboxes tend to have internal reflectors which improve there efficiency
