Shooting a firewalk

Asking for advice after the job is done now, but what is best way to photograph such a thing.I did one recently and couldnt get the balance of flash and ambient right,in order to get person lit plus some glow of fire.

Seems a tricky task.Anyone done it succesfully?

That guy has some fire poi adding light to the top of his body though, which a straight walker won't have.

Maybe still go for the wide open, high iso approach, but use some lower output constant lighting to illuminate the body? Expose for the glow and then gradually bring up the fill light?
