Shooting astro, on crop?

What's the best lens to consider for a nice bit of astro photography on a crop body, in my case a 7D? I've had fair results with my everyday lens, the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, but 17 is far too narrow in terms of FOV
Any suggestions/examples?

The Canon 10-22 is great, though not as fast as the 17-50.

You could try a Samyang 14mm? I use it on FF and its great, and the 3mm will make a surprising difference over the 17mm.

Tokina 11-17 f/2.8 would be a good shout on a crop body.

Muuuch wider than the 14mm.

If I was shooting a crop this would be my lens of choice for Astro stuff.

Yup, another vote for the Tokina. As well as the focal length and wide aperture it also can take the Astronomik drop-in light pollution filter. These don't fit with EF-S lenses.
