Spent 25 years with manual focus SLRs and only got my first AF body in 2004. They have their place, but for a lot of what I do, it's as easy to focus manually. Sometimes easier when you have a decent focusing scale on the lens (severely lacking on much modern glass).

If the worry is perspective distortion that's a product of camera to subject distance and "all" you need to do is take a step or two back, the drawback is that this changes your framing. You could always crop the image to get a tighter shot without the perspective distortion although you are throwing away information and print size but it might not matter depending upon your intended use.
Personally I'm happy with 50mm on a 5D and 20/25mm on MFT (x2 crop) and was happy with 30mm on APS-C (x1.5 crop.) I found 50mm a little long on APS-C.

I guess my story is similar to many here, started with a small light dslr and now need a small donkey to haul my gear.
I have kept my original 350d + 18-55 kit lens. This is my travel camera, if I want to take my newer gear I accept that as part of suffering for my art.
