Shootsac - is there a more reasonably priced alternative?

Yes
Like a lot of people, I've been watching the Jasmine Star wedding seminar, and I like the idea of the shootsac (which is a small neoprene bag designed for carrying lenses which you seem to be able to put lenses in without lens caps - making switching much faster)

They are pricey to import - about 200USD.

Does anyone have a better solution/alternative?

The difference with the crumpler bags etc is that you can't put your lenses directly in without lens caps.

Domke F-803 or the Safrotto copy are better than the Shootsac's IMO.

Combine the insert that comes with it, with a 2-compartment one, and you have a '3 tube' lens bag which doesn't require lens caps and is super quick to use. Personally I then insert rolled up socks into each tube to make it such that all my lenses sit at the same height, ie the rear elements are all exactly level with the top. It's slick as greased lightning.

Unlike the Shootsac the thing doesn't collapse when you take the lens out, so you don't have to try to 'open up a gap' into which to insert the lens.

Also, the pockets on the front of an F-803, though completely flat when unused, can be enlarged to take a body if required.

Thanks... will take a look at those. Are the safrotto copies as good as the Domke ones?

Any bag that can have separate compartments for lenses you could use without worrying about lens caps. I stumped up for a shootsac though, haven't regretted it, works spot on for me.

My concern for other bags would be that the material they are made of might not be appropriate to put lenses unprotected into.

I too like the look of the shootsac. Great idea for lightweight situations. asaik they're made from neoprene which protects the lenses if they're dumped in the bag without caps.

Icecavern - how much did you pay? Did you buy direct or is there a reseller?

I got mine from Adorama as they were the only seller that would ship here. Shootsac ship internationally themselves now. I don't remember how much it was, as I bought a few things at the same time.
