Alright, everyone?

I'm kinda new to this photography lark so you'll probably be hearing quite a few silly questions from me in the coming weeks ;)

I've been asked by a friend to take a few photos of their shop opening. Like I said, I'm a bit new to this so when it comes to settings and what have you, I'm a bit clueless.

It's been sprung on me at the last minute as I was asked today and they want me to do it tomorrow. Bit short notice, I know. I've had a quick look for anything similar in the forum but couldn't see much so I thought I'd just ask!

I've got a Canon EOS 550d body, an EF 50mm f/1.8 lens and an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens. Oh and I've got a Speedlite 430EXII flash as well.

The shop has a fair amount of natural light. They're after a few of their sign outside and a handful of inside the shop as well.

I'm kinda stumped on what settings I should be using? This will probably seem a bit rookie to the majority and I can already hear the cries of 'RTFM!' but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Cheers guys!

24-70 and flash sounds perfect for this job.. as for settings.. just about impossible for anyone to tell you that as we havent a clue on the lighting.. the size of the shop or anything else that will come into play.. theres no fast moving objects so speed shouldnt be a problem...If your worried stick it in P :)

Talk to the owner and see if there are any particular shots they are after.. Make sure you get those, even if you have to stage them...

I would go for the 24-70 and you probably won't need the speedlite but take it just incase.

It's hard to tell you the settings, if you are doing product shots just put the camera in aperture priority and set a low aperture... the camera will do the rest.

If you don't know about aperture and what affect it will have then just put the camera into Programe mode which is basically automatic.

Just make sure you get the shots the owner thinks he wants and add your own creative flair to capture your favourite parts of the shop.

Also pray for a nice day if you are taking pictures form the outside ;)

Ahh blinding! Excellent stuff. I've already asked if he had any specific shots in mind and he replied with 'I dunno...just standard stuff?' which is infinitely helpful.

Cheers guys, really appreciate the advice. Will let you know how I get on and such!

Just a thought, but look for the best part in the shop that's well illuminated from natural light (inside) and use a tripod if feasible, if it's a new thing to you don't want to be let down by being nervous and getting too much camera shake, but good luck.

Even though there is plenty of natural light it wouldn't hurt to take a few 'duplicate' shots with the inbuilt flash, again in Auto (or P). It may help to pick out faces against the background.
