Shopping for a tripod at Focus on Monday. Any tips/suggestions?

It'll be my first time at Focus and I'm in the market for a new tripod & head combo. What are the chances of getting a good deal at the show?

I won't be spending a fortune - I've budgeted £120 - any suggestions on suitable tripod models for a 6'3" keen amateur who likes landscape photography? (weight isn't too much of an issue, although I'd prefer it wasn't made out of pig iron! :))

Hi not sure which tripod you should get - not something I use much, but if you look at Manfrotto and Giottos ones I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I would make a note before you go of current prices you can get them for just to make sure you are getting a good sale. I know when I went last year there were some good prices on bits of equipment I knew the price of, but there were also some great show offers which were actually no better than I could get them in the high street.

Dont know if they'll be at the show but i cant recommend redsnapper highly enough!

For only 60 ish delivered you can have a set of legs with a free panning head included, delivered next day.

I've never owned a more expensive one but when i researched them i found a lot of people saying they were better than £120+ alternatives.

Just got back from the show.
Manfrotto have a huge stand and Jacobs have about 3 booths each specialising in something different, one of them with lots of tripods at pretty good prices.
Redsnapper not there :(


7D was selling for £999 new and 899 ex demo, for example.
 
From the little research I've done I'm leaning towards Giottos but that could all change if I see a good deal on another brand. I'll do my research tonight and take a look around tomorrow to see what's-what.

I have a Giotto MTL 9361 with a Manfrotto 494 ball head, can't recommend either highly enough. The Giotto legs seemed as good as the Manfrotto 190 xprob in my opinion. I only brought the Manfrotto ball head as I preferred the locking lever to the one on the Giotto head and it has the tension adjuster on it. Do shop around for prices before you go through as there are some good deals to be had on the net if you shop around. I got the legs and head for £104 from Jessops using various online discounts and manager discount as the legs were ex display.
