Hi all, from having a quick browse on the website, i am coming to the conclusion that jessops can be a bit hit and miss with customer service. If this is true does anyone know of any other good camera shops in Merseyside?

Graham.

If you are after a dedicated camera shop, there are not that many about! The only other one I can think of is Jacobs in Bold street Liverpool City Centre.

Other than that it's Comet, Argos , Currys etc

Thanks for the replys guys. I may be in Liverpool tomorrow, so will have a look at Jacobs and Jessops. If i get time over the weekend, i will have a look at Wilkinson in Sothport.

there is jacobs on bold street, but a bit further up towards the bombed out church there is also a shop called sampsons, cant tell you what its like ive never been in it

Are you sure it is still there ? I walked down Bold street the other day, I think it has now closed down !

has it...as i said id never been in it, i just remember it being there :'(
Yep so it would seem it has now gone, I was talking to my mate. He said he was in that shop a few months back buying something, I said are you sure. He looked at his reciept and it was a few years ago!

Just one of those shops that has been there for ever, and when it's gone you assume it is still there lol

Sampsons went a few years ago. Towards the end the chap there was making his money from printing and didn't have much actual camera gear in the shop.

In the city centre there is, afaik, only Jacobs, Jessops, John Lewis and Currys Digital who do new cameras. Currys Digital are quite poor though, and have very little stock. Outside the city centre there is Currys in Speke and Currys in Aintree. The Aintree branch has more cameras, but mostly compacts, but they are all out to try.

Back in the city centre there is Newton Ellis on Cheapside who repair cameras and deal in a bit of old gear. Been many years since I've been near there though.

Can't think of anywhere else.

I was trying to track this place down last week, for some reason I thought it was the old camera shop at the pier head end of Dale Street

I can confirm wilkinson in southport to be a gem. Sara the manager is excellent especially, very helpful indeed. Not always the cheapest but certainly couldn't fault them for service :)

Just bear in mind they're closed on Sundays if you're planning a trip at the weekend :)

Hi,

Having recently moved from liverpool, I can tell you that photography shops in and around the local area are very limited.

I have moved upto the Greater Manchester area recently with work and found an abundance of small independants which liverpool now definately lacks!

On the topic of independants did you know that the number has gone from around 3,500 down to around 300! I was shocked and it is due to the types of currys etc pushing them out of the market... Very disappointing!

Either way, if you are prepared to travel further afield there are quite a few.

Thanks Paul, may be worth a look.

I did have a look around Liverpool and have decided on a 600d. Just looking out for the best price now.
